Conveys high expectations to all students
1. Progress reports are sent home to parents so that parents can have an understanding of their student’s growth, areas of exception, and areas in need of improvement. In my classroom, I sit down with the students to go over their progress reports with them so that they understand the marks they are receiving and why so they can relay that information to their parents as well. With these reports, they know they are accountable for all of their grades and have the chance to improve before the end of the year.
2. I value homework in the classroom for many reasons. Most importantly, I believe that homework must consistently be checked so that students also see how important it is to me as their teacher, as well as have the chance to view their mistakes and better understand the content. I believe in this accountability being an important way that I show what I expect of my students when it comes to homework. That is why we keep a homework log and my CT checks it on the days I cannot be present to do it myself. Students receive a check once they have graded their own homework with a marker based on the answer key displayed on the board each morning.
